Girls Weekend in Scottsdale

Scottsdale Girls’ Getaway Guide

If you asked Cyndi Lauper, you’d think girls just want to have fun. If you ask us, girls do want to have fun, as long as that fun is underscored by the serenity of the spa, the peacefulness of the pool, and the balance that comes from escaping to a place between the bright lights of the city and the calm quiet of the desert.

At Sanctuary Resort on Camelback Mountain, mountains rise above you as the Phoenix metro area unfolds below you. The peacefulness of the desert can embrace you just as readily as the hustle and bustle of Scottsdale can coax you back into town. Groups of girlfriends thrive here, thanks to the sweeping views, inspiring villas, and just-remote-enough location.

If talk of living your best life sweeps through your friend group, breathe life into that shared dream in Scottsdale. From Old Town to Fashion Square Mall to your villa’s private pool, Scottsdale is a place to live a little. Brush up on the top things to do, see, and eat during your visit.

What to Do

There’s something for everyone in Scottsdale. Even the hardest-to-please member of your girl gang will love the warmth of the desert and the sheer number of activities in the Scottsdale area. Shop the latest in fashion, go for a hike, or try a local fitness class.

Old Town Scottsdale

Nothing says Scottsdale like Old Town. This historic district is packing with some of the city’s best shops, galleries, and restaurants, but it’s also a shopping hotspot. Head to the corner of 5th Avenue and Scottsdale Road for the Fifth Avenue Shops, where you’ll find jewelry, antiques, and southwestern styles. Check out more of Scottsdale’s top shopping destinations.

Sign Up for a Fitness Class

Sanctuary Resort’s fitness center and movement studio are peaceful places to work up a sweat. Hit the treadmill on your own or work out as a group in one of Sanctuary’s fitness classes. Try Stand-Up Paddleboard Yoga in the pool, pilates, or even aerial or hatha yoga.

Hike Camelback Mountain

Sanctuary has scenic hiking, biking, and nature trails right on site, but it’s also close to one of Scottsdale’s most iconic summits: Camelback Mountain. Hike to the top for sweeping views of the valley. Start early, pack plenty of water, and bring your iPhone along to take advantage of the many photo opps along the way.

Where to Eat

Meals can make or break a girl’s getaway. Luckily, Scottsdale has restaurants that’ll satisfy even the toughest foodie in the group.

elements

Dine out in style at elements. This modern eatery serves up both sweeping views and farm-fresh American cuisine with Asian accents.  Food Network star and elements Chef Beau MacMillan crafts innovative, seasonal dishes that showcase local produce, sustainable seafood, and hormone-free meat.

Grab a booth or huddle up by the fire over guac, queso, and inventive tacos like braised green chili chicken and pineapple pork. They also have mouthwatering vegetarian options–hello, plantains!

jade bar

Craft cocktails and views of Paradise Valley are at the heart of the jade bar experience. Expert mixologists stir up unique cocktails every day of the week. Try The Pour, their premium happy hour, or catch live music at late nights from the bar’s resident jazz, pop, and R&B vocalist.

Where to Relax

Chances are, you’re planning a girls’ getaway to relax. What would a vacation be if you escaped the hustle and bustle of the city only to find yourself somewhere equally chaotic? Lounge in the shadow of Camelback Mountain, be that in side-by-side chaises near the pool or a soothing spa treatment or two.

Infinity Edge Pool

Sanctuary Resort’s infinity-edge pool is lined not only by loungers but also by cabanas. Bask in the warm Scottsdale sun as you work on your vacation tan, sipping on cocktails and catching up on the latest in each other’s lives. Some of Sanctuary’s villas also feature game rooms and private pools, making them perfect if you’re planning a girls’ getaway that you want to be all about you.
